Karting reached Germany in 1958, and in the following years, the development and innovations in karting equipment started to materialize. Starting as simple handcrafted vehicles, karts utilized
pushcart tires and engines derived from Stiehl chainsaws. This is the origin of the factory purpose-built racing kart.
On April 24, 1960 the first German kart race was held in Wiesbaden, near Frankfurt.
Lothar and Wilhelm Hetschel, the founders of the Mach 1 Factory, entered their first race in 1965. What started as a hobby, set the motion for an eventual full time concentration into building one of the only and best chassis and motors in the business.
